The goal of the Soccer Academy program is to provide young soccer players with an environment to develop their skills to reach their full potential. Our academies offer comprehensive programs designed to challenge and inspire each player, regardless of their current level of play.

In addition to technical and tactical training, we place a strong emphasis on character development, sportsmanship, and teamwork. Our academies believe in helping players grow not only as soccer players, but also as well-rounded individuals.

Whether players are just starting out or looking to take their game to the next level, ECSD soccer academies are the ideal place for student athletes to achieve their goals. Join us and experience the best in soccer training and development available in Edmonton.

Fees And Budget

Sport Academies are programs of choice that involve significant program fees. As such, it is important that parents are aware of how funds are being allocated. Each fall, a preliminary budget for the current school year, along with actual expenditures for the previous year, are posted on the school academy website pages. Sport Academy Fees are spent on student programming and include costs such as basic apparel packages, professional coaches and instructors, transportation, equipment, venue and tournament fees. For your information, Academy Fees do not include the cost for instruction by certified teachers or instructor apparel.

Academy Fees do not include basic school fees. Basic school fees are charged separately and are in addition to Sports Academy Fees.

If we do not spend all of the funds collected through Sports Academy fees, then the remaining dollars are credited toward the following year fees or reimbursed.

Upon acceptance into one of our Sport Academies, a non-refundable deposit for the months of May and June is required.

At registration, parents may choose to pay fees in full or to pay fees on a monthly basis. For your convenience, fees may be paid online through PowerSchool. We also accept cash, Visa, or Mastercard. Please contact our school office (780) 453-1596 for more information about fee payments.

Testimonials

Hi Rita McKinnon,

I just wanted to touch base with you about Monday’s shadow day.

First, I just want to thank you for the opportunity for Atticus to join the program. He really enjoyed getting a glimpse of what it would be like to play soccer at St. Edmunds. As soon as we got in the car he said to me, “Mom, I HAVE to go to this school”! He can’t believe that he can potentially go to a school that cares about soccer so much and takes training seriously. He had a great time playing with your athletes and he said he felt like he already belonged there. I agree that we felt very welcomed and that you have created a really great atmosphere for your athletes.

As a parent I must say that I was very impressed with the organization and structure of the program and session that we attended. I know Atticus would be such a great fit and addition to the St. Edmunds Soccer Academy. Although we don’t live particularly close to the school and it would require some adjustments to our weekday schedule, my husband and I are committed to making it work so that Atticus and Zena can attend St. Edmunds, should they be accepted.

We also very much like the school itself and the academic programming. From what we have researched online, the virtual tour / open house and even talking to parents from the school, we have seen and heard great things about teachers and student life.  Atticus is looking forward to continuing to learn French, “just in case I play for PSG”!

We sincerely hope that our family can join the St. Edmunds family in September.

Andra and Ros

Our two daughters both went through the St. Edmund Soccer academy.  We had two completely different and completely positive experiences.

For Sophie, we believe the program perfectly complimented her high-level club team training and helped her excel as she is now playing University soccer in the USA.

Our daughter Vanessa joined the academy after suffering an ACL injury and reconstruction surgery. The academy supported her recovery both physically and even more importantly supported the mental aspect of being an athlete with an injury on the road to recovery.

Walsh Family

St. Edmund Soccer Academy offered my daughters valuable experience on and off the field. They made lasting friendships and were able to participate daily in a sport they love. They were supported and shown respect during their years at St. Ed’s.

Panchuk Family

St Edmund Soccer Academy has not only helped make our kids become better soccer players, but it has also helped make them better people. The coaches are extremely knowledgeable and bring a wealth of diversity and experience. They focus, not only on skill development, but also on the pillars of sport, including humility, effort, achievement, teamwork, and sportsmanship.  St Edmund also values education and the pillars of sport overlap with the curriculum.

Training Program

The St. Edmund Soccer Academy follows guidelines set by the Canadian Soccer Association’s “Wellness to World Cup, Long Term Player Development” model and the 3 C’s from TOVO academy ( Character, Cognition and Competence).  Through drills and game-like settings, we provide training that not only facilitates improvement in specific technical skills with a ball, but also provides the opportunity for players to develop a greater cognitive understanding of the game. Awareness, vision, and good decision making are fundamental qualities that the game demands. Students are encouraged to work on their understanding and abilities in order to improve these qualities from both the attacking and defending standpoint.

The following components form the basis of our overall training program:

Technical

Sessions involving specific techniques in a skill setting are conducted including: Passing, Control, Dribbling, and Shooting.

Physical Training- Agility, Balance and Coordination (SAQ’s)

Speed, Agility, Quickness,  Balance, and Coordination exercises are conducted emphasizing proper technique.

Psychological Training

In keeping with our mandate to promote a healthy, well balanced lifestyle, students participate in non-soccer activities such as: Bowling, Swimming, Martial Arts, Rock Climbing, and Golf, etc. This off-campus physical education activity takes place one afternoon per month during one of our training sessions. Within the classroom, presentations from professionals on topics such as nutrition, injury prevention and treatment, and sport psychology are offered to our students throughout the course of the year.

Testing

Periodic testing is conducted to measure improvement in the combined use of technique and speed.

Competition Days

Students compete in 1V1, 2V2, 4V4, and 6V6 games where statistics are kept, weighting is applied and end of term results provide individual feedback for each player to consider. Awards are given to those students who demonstrate consistent high performance.

Travel Opportunities

Every two years students in grades 8 and 9 are given the opportunity to attend week long soccer training and organized games at in or out of Province locations.

Tactical

The defending and attacking principles of the game are introduced.
